NAIDOC Community Event at Gunnamatta Park

Published:22nd July 2026

On Thursday, 9 July, Amanda and Tayla from Yilabara Training Services attended the NAIDOC Community Event at Gunnamatta Park, hosted by Sutherland Shire Council and the Kurranulla Aboriginal Corporation.

The day commenced with a powerful Smoking Ceremony, followed by a Welcome to Country and vibrant cultural performances that celebrated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and achievements.

A wide range of local organisations were present, showcasing their services and engaging with community members throughout the event. Yilabara proudly hosted a stall within the community hall, where Amanda and Tayla connected with attendees, community groups, and service providers to discuss our Digital Badges and Mental Health Programs.

The event provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen community connections, raise awareness of Yilabara’s services, and engage in meaningful conversations about pathways to learning, wellbeing, and professional development. The day was a great success, with all promotional materials distributed and strong interest shown in our programs and services.

Yilabara were lucky enough to attended NAIDOC events across NSW. It was an incredible week with opportunities to have a yarn, learn, reflect, and celebrate First Nations cultures.
